The Kinki Stair is developed by Fiction Factory for the trendy hairdressers of Kinki Kappers. SIDstudio was commissioned by Fiction Factory for the structural engineering of the stairs. The architectural design of the stair is of great importance and were carefully taken into account during the engineering. Slenderness of elements was key in the design.
The stairs have a public function, meaning high loadings needed to be taken into account. To respect the architectural look, the balustrade was designed as such that it fulfills no structural function in length direction of the stairs. At the bottom the stair is only vertical supported. At the top the stair is connected to an existing concrete beam of the first floor. The capacity of the floor structure is also checked with the stair loadings.
