Malaria no more

On Tuesday 7 June 2011 the largest mosquito net in the World is hung from the Euromast in Rotterdam. With this action the foundation Malaria No More! wants to attract attention to the fact that Malaria decease kills a child every 45 seconds and more than 1 million people a year . The money raised by this action is to purchase and distribution 50,000 mosquito nets.

The net structure is made from rope, knotted together on an open field next to the Euromast. About 60 volunteers helped hoisting the full structure in about 1,5 hours.

The hyperbolic shape was created by opposite curved verticals and diagonals. The prestress was introduced by tensioning the cables on 24 water tanks of 1000 kg which function as foundation elements on ground floor level.
