EDGE AMSTERDAM WEST

The building on the Basisweg 10 called “EDGE Amsterdam West” is being completely renovated. The building is a 48,000sqm office building from 1970 with APG and Alliander as the main tenants.

Part of the renovation is the construction of the nearly 4400m2 roof of the courtyard. For the atrium roof, a design was made by the Architects Cie and with SIDstudio in the form of a glass dome construction with a specific pattern related to the design of the existing building. The dome spans approximately 75m and consists of an octagonal main structure that forms a grid of triangles with radians. One side of the so-called large triangles is approximately 8.3m. A secondary triangle structure has been added to create surfaces that can be bridged by glass panels. In the horizontal plane is a tension ring to balance the permanent horizontal forces of the dome. At 4 locations, the tension ring is directly connected to the dome to create a solid 2nd load path.
