In Manifest TV, sixteen architects give their views on climate and inequality. They talk to each other about their ideas. Presenting in this third episode of Manifest TV:

This afternoon (8-12-2020) Arjan Habraken will give a presentation about the dome on Edge Amsterdam West at “Digitaal symposium Voor en Door staalconstructeurs”. He presents from design phase to execution.

Arjan Habraken was awarded “Structural Engineer of the Year 2020” by VNconstructeurs, KPE Groep, Hoger Technisch Instituut, Building Holland.

The jury looked at the following 4 criteria:
• criterion 1: Innovative and appealing constructions
• criterion 2: Social relevance
• criterion 3: Contributing to and making visible the development in the field
• criterion 4: Contribution to good cooperation within project teams

“This title is for me an extra motivation to continue developing structures with efficient use of resources. As structural engineers we have a large impact on the footprint of projects and therefore should take a leading role in future developments towards circular buildings. The working field of structural engineers must expand, education must change, and research is needed to develop new innovative certified products.
I do hope our paths will cross during this trip.”

After a year of experience Tom has signed his permanent contract at SIDstudio. He graduated at the TU/e on wooden reciprocal dome structures. He made a parametric design tool that included the full engineering and production file for robotic manufacturing. He is keen to develop his skills in timber engineering and learn about digitalization from design to execution. We are very happy to have him on board.

It has been announced that Arjan Habraken of SIDstudio together with Dirk Rinze Visser of Buro Happold have been nominated for structural engineer of the year 2020. This is organised by VNconstructeurs.
On October 29, the winner will be announced by Noortje de Geus of The Hague Engineering Firm.

On that day also will be announced whether Marijn Bruurs (Witteveen+Bos) or Ferdinand van den Brink (Ballast Nedam) will win the prize for Talent of the year.

The construction of the dome at the Basisweg 10 in Amsterdam is almost finished. Today was the last visual check. From tomorrow the scaffolding will be dismantled.

MDLX has built a first test house on Breebronne holiday park in Maasbree. It is a durable modular wood construction system that can be quickly mounted on the construction by means of prefabricated elements. The MDLX structure can always be enlarged or reduced. It can also be disassembled and rebuilt elsewhere – possibly in a different configuration. SIDstudio developed the structural modular system.
Good to see there’s so much interest. Breebronne is a great location to build this.

On Saturday 11th of July we had a great tour in Amsterdam visiting multiple projects of Arjan Habraken: FOAM, Thonik Wibout, Felix Meritis, Stedelijk Museum, Amstel C1, Faralda Crane Hotel, Rai Office Tower, Pendulum Art. Ending the day at Italian king of pasta “Renzo’s Delicatessen”.

Last week Oostingh Staalbouw started to build the steel frame work of the 70m dome structure at Basisweg 10 in Amsterdam.
During the different building phases Fund Maatvoering b.v. will measure the locations of nodes. SIDstudio will analyse the coordinates and advise on actions to take to control the geometry of the dome during construction.

An impressive temporary structure has been built for the construction of the Basisweg 10 dome in Amsterdam.
The dome will span the complete atrium of EDGE Amsterdam West and is constructed by Oostingh steel construction.
