NET STRUCTURES ATRIUM TU/e

At the Technical University in Eindhoven in the atrium of the department Architecture, Building, and Planning, 3 anticlastic shaped cable net structures are hung. 24 students of the course Lightweight Structures designed the shapes with form finding, created an equal mesh and cutting pattern with Convers and produced the nets.

For the Staatsloterij New Year’s party 2012 on the Museum square in Amsterdam, the firm Airworks made two 12m high inflatable puppets. They where place on stage and moved towards each other so that they kiss at exactly 12 o’clock.

EXPOSURE NEW FACADE STEDELIJK MUSEUM

Last week the spectacular new facade of the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam is exposed.

The futuristic-looking form, designed by Benthem Crouwel Architekten, is made from Twaron, a material sponsored by the Japanese company Teijin Aramid. Twaron is used in aircraft, ships and bulletproof vests. This is the first time it is used in a façade. The facade is one hundred meters wide and extremely light: it weighs less than half of a usual facade.

COMPETITION WON : CHILDREN’S FARM DIERENWIJDE, OSDORP

Olaf Gipser Architecs wins the competition for a new children’s farm Dierenwijde in the Bottespark in Osdorp. SIDstudio is structural consultant.

The project concerns 3 buildings with a total area of approximately 344 m2 GFA (176 + 82 + 86 m2 GFA). The 2 smaller buildings are for the animals, storage and workshops. The largest building contains a multipurpose room, offices, dressing rooms and kiosk. reduce costs.

TU/e WINS ALL UNIVERSITAIR NIVEAU STUDENTENSTAALPRIJZEN

Peter van den Heuvel wins both the studentsSTEELawards at university level on Architecture and Innovation. Walther Plönes ended first in the category ‘ university level, technology ‘ and, Jop Courage won the research award, also at university level.

The pneumatic double-layer tensegrity roof of Peter van den Heuvel, is a design based on the TU/e PHD research of Arjan Habraken regarding flexibility in constructions. In a very sophisticated way Peter van den Heuvel integrated this concept in his graduation work Reedriden Arena, skating stadium Heerenveen.

TU/e BANNER FINALIZED

On the site of the Technical University of Eindhoven, 3 new banners are placed. Because of their more permanent function the client wanted a more appealing design and not a temporary-looking standard steel frame.
