OFFICIAL OPENING OF THE FARALDA NDSM CRANE HOTEL AMSTERDAM

On Friday April 4th 2014 the official opening of the Faralda NDSM Crane hotel Amsterdam took place.

The former NDSM crane 13 has now become a high-profile Amsterdam development: The 50 meter high object is an imposing appearance and has been realized in the well known and much-discussed former NDSM shipyard just near de border of the river IJ and the Amsterdam city centre.

LARGE TRANSPORT & DISASSEMBLY OF THE NDSM CRANE 13

After 2 years of planning and preparation with a large enthusiastic team, the start of disassembly and transport of the NDSM crane 13 Amsterdam is finally a fact. The NDSM crane will be completely disassembles. At the end of October the crane will be restored and replaced as a hotel to determine the skyline of Amsterdam North again.

Some 400 ton cranes, accompanied by smaller cranes from Royal Saan will start the preparations late in the night. Around 6 o’clock the imposing boom will first be dismantled and placed on a pontoon of the company Talsma Shipbuilding in Franeker. The rest of the day follows the 30 meter high tower and the heavy portal.

PRE-OPENING STEDELIJK MUSEUM

Benthem Crouwel Architects organised the pre-opening of The New Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam for the people involved in the renovation project. At least two visits are needed: one for the exposed art and one to look at the renovated and new building.

LECTURE STEDELIJK MUSEUM

On 30 May 2012 Joost Vos (Benthem Crouwel) and Arjan Habraken (SIDstudio – on behalf of Arup) will give a lecture on the architectural and structural aspects of the New Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.

DAS HAUS DER ZUKUNFT Competition entry

SIDstudio worked together with Olaf Gipser Architects on the competition entry for the “The House of the Future” in Berlin. The design is a highly functional and flexible exhibition building, showing a knowledge-based society and views into the world of tomorrow.

NEW FUNCTION HENSENCRANE-13

The monumental Hensencrane-13 in the NDSM area in Amsterdam-Noord will be completely renovated and 3 hotel rooms and a meeting room will be placed in the mast of the crane. SIDstudio is making the structural design.

120m2 PROJECTION SCREEN DE DAM AMSTERDAM

On the 23th of February, for a one evening event on the Dam in Amsterdam, a presentation was given using a 120 m2 projection screen hung from the facade of the Bijenkorf building. Also a podium on the Dam was build for which two steel containers where used. SIDstudio provided the wind calculations for Rotterdam Rigging BV, to receive the approval from the municipality.
